6 cups popped popcorn
Popcorn butter spray
1/4 cup butter
3 tbsp light corn syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1 package of flavored gelatin (3 oz. package)
Pop the desired amount of popcorn you would like to make. Salt and butter to taste. Swirl the bowl of popcorn to ensure the kernels fall to the bottom of the bowl. Measure out 6 rounded cups of popcorn. Place onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.
Remember: Do not use burned popcorn! The flavoring will not mask the burned taste!
Set aside. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
In a small saucepan, melt butter and corn syrup on medium heat until butter is completely melted. While constantly stirring, add sugar and gelatin packet little by little until sugar is dissolved and mixture begins to boil. Once mixture boils, heat for 1 minute while continuously stirring.
At the end of 1 minute, remove from heat and immediately pour the mixture onto your popcorn. Try to spread the mixture as evenly as you can. Use your rubber spatula to thoroughly coat the popcorn.
NOTE: The mixture will harden as it cools, so just try your best to spread it out. When you put the popcorn in the oven, the mixture will melt enough to spread it around more evenly later.
Spread the popcorn on your cookie sheet evenly and place on the middle rack in your oven. Bake for 7-9 minutes. Watch your popcorn closely. The line between perfectly coated popcorn and burnt popcorn is thin.
Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and immediately stir your popcorn again. This will allow the melted mixture to spread more evenly on your popcorn. As the popcorn cools while you’re stirring, break apart the chunks of popcorn for more individual kernels.
