I have always been a working mom. It is not a position that I imagined myself in, but I am happy with where I am.
My son started daycare at 6 weeks old. We had summers together, but he has always been in an in home daycare. He started attending Little Genius Projects Preschool when he was 2, and attended up until Kindergarten, He has also participated in “Tiny Tigers” taekwondo since February,
We are not strangers to a busy schedule., but adjusting to him being in full time Kindergarten is HARD! We are riding the struggle bus big time!
We are both struggling for different reasons. My son LOVES school and is passionate about learning. He does well in school besides some issues with being too social and learning that some things aren’t acceptable no matter how many kids are doing those things. His struggles come into play during his taekwondo classes. He loves taekwondo as much as school, but by the time we reach that point in our day, I think he is physically and mentally exhausted and ready to check out. He becomes lazy, silly, and unfocused, which then causes him to be in trouble. I try to discuss it with him and meltdowns sometimes ensue. It makes our evenings rather unpleasant when he has class. I am hoping that he can adjust and strike a balance very soon.
My struggle is two fold. I can’t seem to get a schedule down that works for us. On the days that he has taekwondo we go from one thing to the other. It is school, homework, taekwondo, dinner, packing lunches, bedtime routine, and then I collapse into my bed. I am thankful that my husband makes dinner and does our son’s bedtime routine, but it is still a lot to deal with. I need to find a way to strike balance for us.
The second thing I am struggling with is adjusting to my on being at school with me. I absolutely LOVE having him there and would never trade it, but I need to figure out a way to get work done before and after school. He has been very good about doing his own thing, but it is still an adjustment.
No matter who you are or what your schedule looks like, back to school will always be crazy, It is a change in routine and structure for everyone. Just keep in mind that you will eventually find a schedule that works for you and your family, I am trying to keep that goal in sight!
